H-2A Visas for Greenhouse and Nursery Workers

Spring is one of the busiest seasons for temporary labor programs — especially the H-2B program. Landscaping companies alone make up a huge share of all Spring H-2B applications, which is a major reason the cap fills so fast each year.


But here’s the good news:


Greenhouse, nursery, and plant-center employers often qualify for the H-2A program instead of H-2B.


And many don’t even know it.


H-2A workers can legally perform a wide range of tasks that plant businesses rely on during the growing season:


🌱 Daily care and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees, and greenhouse plants

🌱 Transplanting and installation work

🌱 Preparing plants for sale, potting, and seasonal inventory

🌱 In many cases, helping at the retail counter or till


For employers hoping to have workers on-site for Spring, time is limited.

To stay on track, we need to begin the H-2A process about 3-4 months before the start date.


🌼 Why do I love helping greenhouse and nursery businesses?


Because flowers were a part of my life long before I ever practiced immigration law. I grew up on a dairy farm, but just next door lived my grandmother — a woman whose garden could stop strangers in their tracks. She was a founding member of the local garden club.


Every year, she competed in the county flower show’s floral arranging competitions, and the first place I was ever taken as a baby was that flower show.


To me, Spring has always meant beauty, color, and the joy that flowers bring to people’s lives. Helping businesses bring in the workers who make that possible is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
